The defamatory reports attempted to link Adunni to former Senator Dino Melaye, including a claim that he used a fake Patek Philippe watch to impress her and another listing her among celebrities he allegedly dated. Adunni told the court the stories violated her privacy and injured her reputation.
Justice I.O. Harrison delivered the judgment in her favour, declaring that Google breached her constitutional right to privacy under Section 37 and also violated the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Despite being properly served with court papers, Google failed to appear or respond, leading the court to order the immediate removal of the offending articles.
This win comes after Adunni had already triumphed in a separate lawsuit against the original blog that published the false story.
She shared the verdict with caption “Not every battle needs a response. Some need a courtroom.”
