The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced the arrest of a principal suspect over the vandalism of six transmission towers along the Yola-Jalingo 330kV Transmission Line, with part of the stolen tower components recovered as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle the criminal syndicate behind the attack. According to TCN, the vandalism was uncovered on July 29, 2026, during a routine patrol by its engineers, who discovered that six transmission towers—T995, T998, T999, T1002, T1003 and T1004—had been extensively damaged. The company claimed the vandals stripped 130 bracing members from towers, putting grids at collapse risk.

Scientists warn that the invasive mosquito species Anopheles stephensi is spreading rapidly across Africa, threatening major cities. Unlike traditional rural carriers, this urban-adapted mosquito breeds in artificial water containers and resists nearly every major insecticide. Originating from South Asia, it's now found in several African countries, including Djibouti, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, and Yemen. This means a major threat to malaria control and elimination in Africa and southern Asia, with WHO issuing a vector alert.
Health agencies urge residents to tightly cover water storage, eliminate standing water and clear waste, and use insecticide-treated nets to combat Anopheles stephensi spread.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has confirmed that the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, experienced minor earth tremors. Min. Dele Alake was responding to an alert by the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA). According to the NGSA, its Seismic Monitoring Station in Utako detected the earth tremor at exactly 11:23 a.m. on Tuesday. It was reported to have shook several buildings, which prompted calls of concerns among residents.
The Minister also assured the public that the agency will continue to monitor the situation while residents engage in normal activities.
