Comedian Ali Baba Says Some Nigerian Youths Are Lazy

Popular comedian, Alleluya Akporobome, a.k.a, Ali Baba, has urged Nigerian youths to acquire skills that will enable them to be financially independent.

The comedian, who spoke with Punch on the sideline of a graduation ceremony held at Gazzelle Academy in Lagos, described skills acquisition as an important factor in the development of any country’s economy, which many Nigerian youths had, unfortunately, ignored.

He said, “Mental laziness is the biggest challenge facing our youths. A lot of people said President Muhammadu Buhari was wrong when he said that Nigerian youths were lazy. But there are young people who don’t want to do any work in this country. They have no respect for anyone who is employed. These people even treat labourers with disdain and laugh at commercial drivers.”

While commending Gazzelle Academy for training the youth on makeup and fashion, he stated that the makeup and beauty industry was not for women’s faces alone, as it could be used for many other things.

“Skills acquisition is the growth of SME, which is the bedrock of any economy. What Gazzelle is doing is commendable and they deserve all the accolades. It was even hard for some of the graduands to attend the ceremony because they had been booked.

“I advise youths to pick up skills. Models and actors now depend heavily on makeup artists and fashion designers. With makeup artistry, Tara Fela-Durotoye is very successful and she has trained a lot of people too.”

  3. Lazy or unmotivated and hopeless. The evil of poverty is that it zaps the energy out of people. When you are hungry it will be hard to find the energy to think beyond finding the next meal. But I do agree with the importance of having a skill. Has the government invested in community colleges and trade schools. Plumbers, electricians and welders are some of the highest paying skilled trades.

  4. I don't agree. Nigerian youths are very hardworking, Infact 80% of our youths are. The country is just very unfavorable to us. Acquire skills, acquire skills, will they acquire skills with their urine? Because the last time I checked, you pay to learn and most people cannot afford it. Okay, after acquiring the skills, who will set them up? How many banks give loan to youths?

  5. I agree with him but that is wat the govt keep saying. How about if the old leaders retire and let the youths take over rather than shouting skills skill. Any skill that is trending now is useless. Tailor! Make up. Photograph. Bead making . All no longer sell well like before because almost every kid can do it so who will buy from who. Abeghi

  6. Acquire skill acquire skill , if everyone acquires skill who will patronize us ? Nigerian youths are trying their best , let the govt do the needful , create jobs and give the skilled easy access to loans not them conditions that ll make one not want to near loan. Simply put everyone can't be skilled , too many emergency entreprenuers these days...some people just want to be team builders please.

    1. The worse is when my state will send students abroad to learn a skill for 4yrs, bring them back and cannot create a platform for them. This country is messed up. I don't blame youths traveling out and just get married to avoid coming back here.

  8. Ali Baba as a god father that u is, how have u empowered the youths? Nigeria has failed the youths with systemic corruption. Instead of u to criticize the ruling class that has destroyed every sector of the country
