Mrs Dee's Corner - Blessing The Food..

The habit of blessing my food before eating had been inculcated into me from childhood, so I didn't see anything wrong in doing the same when I visited a friend and she offered us refreshments.

I closed my eyes, bowed my head and prayed over the food. When I opened my eyes, I saw the displeasure on my friend's face. She was clearly angry.

When I inquired why she was upset, she flared up that why would I bless the food she gave me . "Are you suspecting me of poisoning the food? " She asked. "Do you not trust me enough to eat my food without blessing it?"

I was perplexed, where was this coming from? She clearly got it wrong as I did it out of habit and not out of suspicion.

She was a Christian and I didn't understand the reason she was opposed to what I did.

I've gotten so used to blessing my food that I can't remember the last time I ate without praying over it. Even in a public place like wedding, parties or in a restaurant, in order not to attract undue attention to myself by praying out loud, I'll either whisper a prayer or do so silently.

I still don't know if I was at fault or she overreacted.

  2. I bless my food always, even when it's from a friend.

But in cases like the above-mentioned, I do not bow my head nor close my eyes. My lips do not even move. I say a prayer quietly before eating, all they don't even realize it.

I even pray before eating the food I cook for myself by myself, talk more of outside food.

  6. I bless my food anytime any day, also I teach my 2 year old that now, he knows its something that must be done before eating. Values must be upheld.

  7. I don't see anything wrong in what you did. If I were you, I would budge.

  9. You did nothing wrong dear. As a Catholic, we were taught prayers before and after meal which I still pray till date. But what I do frown at some persons is the way they pray. Some will start binding and casting before they eat a meal, making it look suspicious as if the presenter put something in it. Some will even speak in tongues just for a meal lol....

A simple short prayer will do just fine. 'O Lord bless this meal before me, for strength, nourishment and preservation as I eat from it. Amen'.

  10. 1 Timothy 4:3They will prohibit marriage and require
abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be
received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
4For every creation of God is good, and nothing that is received with
thanksgiving should be rejected, 5 because it is SANCTIFIED BY
THE WORD OF GOD AND PRAYER...

Sanctifying food by the word of God and prayer is a command from God
and I won't take excuse from anyone; in public or in private
    to do it.

Someone once prayed over kolanuts and the pepper sauce used to eat
it. It was in a village. By the time he opened his eyes, it was
tortoise and blood that was on the plate.

  12. I also bless the food I cooked myself. So you should be worried about her outburst biko. She is hiding something.

  13. I bless food prepared by me too.
If it were me,I’d suspect that food cos of her reaction to the food blessing.
Sometimes when I say “thank you ma/sir” after eating, the way some people look at me makes me wonder if I did something wrong.
I was raised that way and I can’t change it.

  14. Blessing the food is habitual, how is she not aware of that being a christain?

My only rule about blessing food is it shouldn't take more than a minute. *sideeyes my momma*

  15. Please, stop eating at that friend's house. And she isn't a Christian, abeg. Sorry but anyone who serves you food and says/does something to prove they didn't poison the food (when you haven't mentioned anything like that) has done something you don't know. If you eat in someone's house, that means there is a level of trust there. Nobody goes around expecting to be poisoned so if someone that gave you anything to eat is mentioning it, ask yourself why her mind went there. It's her guilty conscience.

    1. Her friend's overreaction is certainly troubling and suspicious.
I won't be in a hurry to eat in her house again.
Blessing of food and drink is a value worth inculcating, I learnt from my parents and my kids have been taught so.

  16. aside from praying over a meal because of any negativity, it's also a means of thanking God for the provision of the food. some people do not have to eat while some have but cannot eat..so it's normal to thank God

  19. I accepted food in the house of someone I thought was my person. It was my first time eating there and she did something I thought was strange at the time but cos she's older, I didn't question it. She served me poundo and soup, she took some of it in my front, dipped into the soup and ate before I started eating. I thought she was trying to assure me that it wasn't poisoned but I thought why will my mind even go there? I no know say na another thing; by the next time we saw, she had proclaimed me her enemy. That they summoned and my spirit refused to answer.

I don't think I even prayed over that food, the kinds of situations I've stupidly gotten myself into that God delivered me, I'm sure the angels God assigned to me wonder if my head is correct at all. Better pray over your food, biko. Anyone that's angry about that doesn't mean you well.

    2. Anon 15:14 After that, do they say they summoned and your spirit refused to answer? Or confess that they entered your room at midnight after you ate and they made incantations for two hours to no avail? If yes, tell me the name of your village so I can avoid you. Cos where I come from, that's not normal at all

  21. Dee see let me tell you, I'm from a strong christian home that we pray before eating, i stay with my sis and mum visited on Wednesday. i made food for her in the kitchen, we were both together. when she wanted to eat the food, she prayed over it. instantly i felt bad, aww she not trusting me? then it strike me that it a normal norm in the family. if you said my friend told me, i would have said maybe i know you and i told you the gist.

your friend is not a bad person and if she was she wont even react that way, she will pretend na

Presently visiting my mom, and I gave her snacks that I brought for her, she blessed it before biting into it, and I did so when I eventually ate mine!

  25. Honestly, this is just the result of living in a superstitious society where ppl are dashing juju here and there. It is better to say grace together when everyone is seated with their food, one person says grace for all the food. But living in a highly superstitious society like Nigeria one has to be conscious how they do things. Next time take her hands and pray a prayer of thank you for all she has done and the work she put into the food she cooked for you, that is a general blessing that covers her and the food together and not just the food alone.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Did I read you say superstitious? Lol. You're forming woke, abi? I wasn't being superstitious when a grown woman summoned me after giving me food and my spirit refused to appear. Or got into my room at midnight to make incantations for two hours. I didn't wake up, she confessed her whatever didn't work. These didn't happen in a dream but real life. Stay there and be speaking grammar as if you don't know witchcraft is real even abroad. When something never do you, e dey like feem.

    2. Anon 16:06 leave am. No be only say grace. In Africa people see and experience attacks first hand. No need to move around with our eyes closed because we want to copy people abroad. That's their society, we live in ours.

  26. I wasn't in the habit of blessing my food (still struggling with it) until I read on this blog where a BV advised someone who said she always ate in her dreams and had done series of fasting, deliverances, prayers etc to no avail for it to stop, to always sanctify anything that goes into her mouth in the physical. She said once it becomes a habit, she will start practicing it in her dreams and such dreams would stop. We all know the power in the blood of Jesus of course. Fortunately for me, I had the same issue so in addition to my prayers etc, I started sanctifying everything to eat or drink with the blood of Jesus( though I forget at times) and I have noticed a great change. The powers of darkness apparently are getting tired of wasting their efforts and resources.

  27. I even bless Gala and Bigi tropical in traffic! She overreacted. I make the sign off the cross even when i want to drink bottle water, anything i'm putting in my mouth, anywhere i'm entering.

    Your friend should calm down!

  28. Be careful with that friend of yours, her hands may not be all that clean. A supposed christian raises angry because the food she cooked is being blessed sends all kinds of alarm bells.

    ReplyDelete
  29. She is silly. Always bless your food...I had similiar experience years back when a girl did the same. She refuse to bless the food and made me not bless the food. I regretted becos i started having spiritual attack and vomiting after eating. It was divine help and prayer that save me. Pals always pray and never let anyones angry face or threat scare or silence you from doing the right thing. God First and evryone else last.
