A Lagos‑based couple identified as Fred and Goodness have been arrested after allegedly staging their own kidnapping on January 7, 2026 and extorting about ₦10,000,000 from relatives and friends (who believed the pair had been abducted)
Police say the couple fabricated the abduction to solicit ransom because the husband needed funds to return to the United States but lacked the means.
The fake kidnap was reported and families and friends raised and handed over the ₦10m within three days to secure the couple’s “release,” abut subsequent police inquiries uncovered inconsistencies that led to the couple’s arrest and recovery of the ransom.
Both of them now face potential charges including faking a kidnapping, obtaining money by false pretence, conspiracy and related fraud offences under Nigerian law, which can carry significant custodial sentences and fines if prosecutors proceed.
Hmmm the couple must have begged for help and none came but the minute they faked their kidnap, it took three days to raise 10 million for them....
Same thing we said about people not wanting to help when one is alive but will donate millions when the person dies.....I dont know what kind of love to classify this behaviour as...
Please note that i do not support what the couple did!
The red pen is totally out of context. Why do Nigerians feel entitled to other people's money. Everyone has what they need to do with their money. If help comes take it, if not seek help elsewhere. Only God is my help o.
ReplyDeleteIs it Stella still running this blog or someone else, because what are all these views? Just saw the one where the red pen advised an abused woman to go back to her husband, and now this.
DeleteEven in the USA, N10m is almost 7K USD, how many people get free money to donate such huge sum.
DeleteThen where is the sense of entitlement coming from?, no one owes you 1 kobo.
As the husband had lived in the USA before, how come he could not reach out to his friends in the US to lend him money to fund his return, na people wey dey manage with am for him hood he come scam.
Such dishonesty!!!
🤔 hmmm
ReplyDeleteNobody wants to loss a loved one
they don't have any reason to fake their kidnap for whatsoever .
ReplyDeleteThere always is another way. How will they live with themselves after this, and he now for sure will not ever make it to the US with a criminal record. In the end all they got was public humiliation and a criminal record, it was not worth it.
ReplyDeletePlans are always perfect in our heads, it is always easy and go perfectly. Never ever trust every thought that enters your head space, some are from principalities working to see you fall, some are from an undiagnosed mentally ill brain.. Not every dream, thought, or feeling should be taken seriously muchless put into action.
O heard of one lady that lied to her f9rmer secondary school mates that she was ill, they all contributed money for surgery. The lady ran with it to Canada. Another story of a former classmate that told us his mun had cancer that he needed help. Naso the guy collect money and ran away never to keep in touch again
ReplyDeleteAnd when they don’t prosper they swear that it’s village ppl on their case, forgetting that they sowed rotten seeds.
DeleteStella, your take no be am at all.
ReplyDeleteAs a human, nobody owes you anything. We’re free to help however we want.
Have you even thought how scared and frustrated they were trying to run around just to get the money because they didn’t want to lose them?
The thought of losing a loved one is totally different from them traveling abroad.
Wrong moves
ReplyDeleteWhen some people are selfish and believe they owe nobody, how do you expect help to come. Any plea for assistance is seen as entitlement. Hope this couple dubiousness won’t prevent help from getting to the real victims who need it.
ReplyDeletei don't want to know someone with this your mindset. It's terrible
DeleteSome of their family members must've borrowed money to secure their release, you never can tell.
