During a plenary session on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, presented a notice of impeachment signed by 26 lawmakers. The notice accuses Governor Fubara of gross misconduct, including constitutional violations such as failure to present the 2026 appropriation bill to the Assembly, misuse of public funds, and other financial irregularities.
A separate notice was read against Deputy Governor Ngozi Oduh by the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart. In line with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), the notices are set to be formally served on the governor and his deputy within the next seven days.
This development marks the latest chapter in the power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The feud, which began intensifying in late 2023, has seen previous impeachment attempts, court battles, and even a brief state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025 to stabilize the oil-rich state.
Sources close to the governor have described the move as politically motivated, vowing legal challenges. Meanwhile, supporters of Fubara have mobilized in Port Harcourt, raising concerns about potential unrest.
The Assembly, dominated by lawmakers loyal to Wike, resumed plenary earlier than scheduled amid renewed tensions fueled by recent "thank you" visits by the FCT Minister to the state.
As required by the Constitution, if the governor does not respond adequately, a panel would be constituted to investigate the allegations, potentially leading to a vote requiring a two-thirds majority for removal.

Exercise in futility. Nyerishi Wike will keep fighting in vain. Who's the state attorney general that will sit over it? Mad people.

This is what happens to you when you eat with the Devil. Fubara is just as dirty as Wike.
ReplyDeleteAt this point Mr Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should call Nyesom Wike to order. He's disgracing him already.

DeleteThe highly ambitious just never considers these possibilities while travelling the road of achievement. The great public embarrassments that seems to occur ever so frequently to these folks. If you have high ambitions to reach the pinnacle in life, please have good ethics and build a spotless work record. No point investing so much to have to live with a sullied reputation, the money cannot buy peace or respect where it matters most.
ReplyDeleteFubara is about to face the wrath of Wike. I just wish him well.
ReplyDeleteWike should allow the governor to rule in peace. Wike's political career will soon end.
ReplyDeleteWike is "Devil incarnate". 😈. Fubara is the 'son' of the Devil. The Devil does not give you anything free. If you swore an oath with your Master, you must abide it.
