NDLEA Intercepts UK-bound N.5Billion Worth Meth; Arrests Baron And Seals Mansion

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a large consignment of methamphetamine concealed in powdered custard containers as part of a consolidated cargo going to London, United Kingdom at the SAHCO export shed of the Lagos International Airport.

The Director, Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a statement on Sunday said, the illicit drug consignment weighing 30.10 kilograms with a street value of N567million was detected and seized by the operatives of the Agency at the airport on May 26.

The seizures, according to Babafemi, was swiftly followed by series of follow-up operations that led to the arrest of a freight agent, Nwobodo Chidiebere, a female suspect, Chioma Lucy Akuta and ultimately the drug lord behind the shipment, Charles Chinedu Ezeh, who was arrested at Sotel Suites, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos on May 18;2023.

Ezeh claims he is a businessman and deals in articles in Onitsha, Anambra State but investigations revealed that he lived with his wife and children in London until 10th December 2022 when he fled to Nigeria after his involvement in a drug-related offence in the UK.

Though he claimed to have been living in hotels since his return to Nigeria last December, operatives were however able to locate his mansion at No. 1 Hawawu Abikan Street, Lekki, on Friday, where a search was conducted and his travel and property documents among others were recovered.

The statement said NDLEA operatives in Adamawa on 15th May arrested a 32-year-old notorious drug dealer, Prince Ikechukwu Uzoma, in Mubi area of the state with 1kg of skunk. Ikechukwu had twice been arrested in the past, and convicted for the same offence.

  2. Nigeria is becoming a high risk drug zone.

Who are the people sponsoring the baron Chinedu? Those are the people that needs to be cuffed. There are turning a 🦯 eye to the underlying issue.

What happens to the paraded individuals? NDLEA we need transparency in your dealings, not just photo shoot as in mugshot.

  3. Wow! All o can say is that our young boys and most especially the girls should not feel pressed to do anything rash all in the name of making money. Work hard, do the right thing and keep your hope in God and at the right time, you shall reap the fruits of your labor. FYI, peaceful mind should be the goal.

  5. See this last one that they said he had been convicted twice in the past, yet they kept releasing him to go and continue from where he stopped. NDLEA, amend your laws, let them start getting life sentences or at least 20yrs

  7. Meth is so dangerous that its bizarre as to why the authorities in Nigeria aren’t doing enough. What makes it more dangerous is the ease of manufacture or “cooking”. Anybody can make it in any kitchen in a lawless country like Nigeria where the over the counter ingredients and the entire drug distribution chain are handled by an illiterate “make money at any cost” cartel calling themselves “patent medicine dealers”, it’s an explosive situation. America had to enact the combat Methamphetamine act and place cold medicines with pharmacists, limiting how many an individual with common cold can buy of some ingredients to get a grip on the meth epidemic when it was ravaging 🇺🇸 over a decade ago. At least they had their pharmacists to hold responsible and it worked!

What happens to a country with a chaotic unprofessional drug distribution system in the hands of “traders” who see it as just another item of merchandise is only left for the imagination. Stop this “I must make money at all cost culture”! Drugs are not victimless crimes and meth spreads faster, kills quicker, desolates and destroys faster than heroin because it doesn’t need to be imported, it’s cooked anywhere folks without conscience want to make blood money. I wonder how many “rich” Nigerians actually flaunt blood money apart from the political and looting class! It’s pathetic. You can buy the whole world and still be poor in your thinking if you are of the type that thinks “money by destroying families & lives” is how to get your mansions & cars/travels.

To the commenter asking “why the baron isn’t caught”, meth barons can be your next door neighbor or the innocent looking husband, wife or young adult. It’s so easy to make unlike heroin or cocaine or many drugs. They don’t need a big baron. That’s what makes such a huge amount so scary. How much is being cooked in various locations as “mpurir Miri” everyday? What is the future of the youths in a country lacking structures that help enforce order in a society. Late Dora Akunyili took on patent medicine illiterate dealers but lost. Nobody has dared what she tried afterwards. The patent medicine cartel dominates medication distribution in Nigeria! At the time Dora was fighting to sanitize the sector, little did the public know we would need a society without illiterates handling meds so soon due to meth. The chicken has come to roost in Nigeria as meth control was largely successful in the US because they had no illiterate patent drug dealers. Just Google the dangers of meth.
