In an interview, Illbliss shared how they discovered the pregnancy during a hospital visit for what they thought was malaria. The news brought both of them to tears after years of prayers and waiting.

He also spoke about their second daughter, born prematurely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Doctors advised them to terminate the pregnancy, but as staunch Catholics, they held on to faith. Today, their daughter is healthy and thriving, a miracle he says remains one of his greatest blessings.

  19. SWAP Bomb Specialist & Commander Surrender to Troops in Yobe

Two top ISWAP members have surrendered to Nigerian troops in Yobe State.
According to reports, the men identified as Abu Umar, a bomb-making expert, and Ismail Mohammed, a commander gave themselves up to soldiers of the 159 Battalion in Geidam on June 8.

Military sources say Umar was a specialist in car bombs, while Mohammed operated in the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious insurgent stronghold.
Security experts believe their surrender is a big win for the military, as the information they provide could help uncover bomb factories, training camps, and supply routes used by insurgents.

This development is seen as a major boost in the fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP in the Lake Chad region.

  20. On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Nigeria’s House of Representatives took a big step toward changing how security works in the country. Lawmakers passed a bill that will allow states to create and run their own police forces. The vote was clear and strong. Out of those present, 289 members voted yes, with only one or a few voting no. The session was led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. Because of a problem with the electronic voting system, they voted by show of hands.

This bill is part of changes to the 1999 Constitution. It moves policing from the exclusive list (only federal government) to the concurrent list. That means both the federal police and state police can exist side by side. States will make their own laws for state police, but there will be national standards to keep things in order. The main aim is to fight insecurity better. Many parts of Nigeria face problems like banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and other crimes. State police will help respond faster to local issues because governors and state leaders know their areas well.

The bill was sponsored by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and other lawmakers. It still has to go through more steps before it becomes law:
    • The Senate must pass it too.
    • At least 24 state houses of assembly (two-thirds) must approve the changes.
    • The President must give final assent.

Until all that happens, nothing changes on the ground. This is just one important stage passed.
